Emancipation Day at the Village

In association with the LBHCC, Fanshawe Pioneer Village is hosting Emancipation Day Celebrations for the second year running.

Performers and speakers will be part of the celebration which starts at 1pm. 

Emancipation Day is the day The Slavery Abolition Act became law in the British Empire and ended the practice of slavery for millions of African People and their descendants around the world. The Act became law on August 1, 1834 marking the first Emancipation Day. On March 24, 2021, the House of Commons voted unanimously to officially designate August 1 Emancipation Day.
